Panama Casco Viejo
Did you ever see that TV show called “Connections 2000” where they started with something simple like jelly and ended up linking it to solar panels?. I did and loved it. In a way, working and living in Casco is a little bit like that, there is a story behind most things (specially the interesting ones) that link to one another and to the whole. Here is a recent example: our first experimental theater space.
This space is at the Santa Familia Community Center, where you can see a professional dance group called The Tribu Performance. To get it to be a theater took a lot of vision and team work. The vision and main material donation was brought in by Conservatorio, a Casco Viejo developer and a Travel and Leisure Global Vision Awards winner. The work was put in by volunteers from the Rotary Club (from USA), who were organized by Faith Hanna, a Panamanian living abroad who loved the idea of making something happen in Casco Viejo and had studied dance as a young girl. Once done the main work, The Tribu finished it and now they offer classes to the dance community in general, but particularly and for free to the children that attend the programs in the center, mainly from APROJUSAN, an afterschool program that focuses on getting kids out of the streets and into the schools… and see them graduate.
So there you go! together we dance, together we can do things. I know it is kind of a cliché, but it is one that holds true!
