Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo
Hope, but specially change need effort. You need strength to pull it off, specially if your calling in life is to be an entrepreneur. And this is the path ex Casco Viejo gang “Ciudad de Dios” has taken. After going through an intense social program called “Esperanza” (Hope, from Fundacion Calicanto), they`ve changed their name to “Fortaleza” which means both Fortress and Strength. And now, guided by fellow Casconians and with help of the Esperanza team, they are giving their first baby steps towards a life in tourism.
As a first step, they`ve set tours for visitors. We went to the pilot week and I was quite impressed. Hearing about Casco`s history from their point of view is something you can´t miss. The flyer “Think you know our neighborhood?” was straight to the point!!!
For $10 per person, this is a great and meaningful experience. Spanish only, but if you need translation let them know in advance and will look for a volunteer to translate.
How to book? email the Esperanza Social Ventures Club: [email protected] And learn more at www.esperanzasvc.org
Tours are Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
