New Year is coming! 2014 promises to be a busy year, and I`m glad to report cultural events will have a big share of the buzz. Today La Prensa reported a bunch of events throughout the next 12 months, here are the nearest to Casco in geography and heart:
JANUARY:
13 to 18th: Panama Jazz FestivalWhere: mostly at City of Knowledge, Clayton, but Casco Viejo will have some of the gigs and after parties, specially with American Trade`s Jazz Bar opening. It will be set up as a “listening room” so if you are serious about music, you`ll absolutely love this! www.panamajazzfestival.com
18th: Painting the 100 Years of the Panama Canal by Olga Sinclair`s Foundation. Kids from the foundation she has in Casco will be gathering at Balboa, Paseo El Prado for a mega painting event. Bring your family! it`s free! info at: 393-6143
31st: National Concert Association Camp for Young Musicians will have a free concert at the Ateneo on City of Knowledge. Ten minutes away from Casco Viejo!
FEBRUARY:
7th to 9th: Three days of music, theater and more to celebrate the hundred years of the Panama Canal at the stairs of the Administration Building.
16th: Its Free Yoga Panama: free yoga class at Cinta Costera by New York yoga instructor Lauren Imparato.
MARCH
15th: Congo Festival in Portobelo! you can´t miss to check on one of Panama`s most colorful and interesting traditions. Stay at El Otro Lado!
15: Drum Night at City of Knowledge by Alfredo Hidrovo. Bring your kids, they`ll love the drumming workshop under the stars. Tel: 306-3700
27th to April 2nd: Theater Festival (FAE) National Theater, Anita Villalaz Theater and several plazas in Casco Viejo.
APRIL
3rd to 9th: International Film Festival Panama (IFF Panama). Check out their website for information, this year they`ll have several screenings in Casco Viejo. www.iffpanama.org
22nd: Starting date of the National concert Association Season. They will have several concerts until October, some of them in City of Knowledge, some in Casco Viejo`s National Theater. Info: 214-4848
JUNE:
9th to 13th: Guitar Festival at the National Theater.
