Casco Viejo, also known as Casco Antiguo, is Panama’s historic district, rich in culture, charm, and even pirate tales! But today, I’m not here to give you a history lesson. Today, I want to share what makes living here so special.

I moved here a few months ago from the bustling Panama City, and honestly? I have no regrets. There’s always something happening. A new restaurant opening, a cozy coffee shop popping up, or a local artisan setting up shop. But unlike the fast-paced city, life here feels warmer. And I don’t just mean the weather! The people here greet you with a smile, they remember your name, and saying “hello” is second nature.

One of my favorite things? You don’t need a car! Everything’s within walking distance. You can get there on foot if you’re heading to a café, browsing a local market, or enjoying a scenic rooftop bar. It’s a truly walkable town, which makes daily life so much easier.

I live here in Casco with my two beautiful golden retrievers, Angus and Arya — and they’re even more excited about this walkable neighborhood than I am!  They love their morning walks in the Plazas, and that more restaurants and coffee shops are pet-friendly, making them part of the community as well. 

So I can now tell you this from my personal experience: Casco Viejo is perfect for anyone looking for a sense of community, and a home filled with history and charm, a unique and special place that feels like no other in Panama City.
