Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo
I went all hyper yesterday at “Digna y Benito”, calle 4ta`s new store in front of Papyro y Yo. The reason? well, it just has beautiful stuff! I used the classic excuse of needing to buy something special for a friend… to buy stuff for me… jejejeje….
The unusual name ties up because of the store`s concept: both “Digno” and “Benita” are common names in Panama`s countryside, specially from the Azuero arch where most of the traditional clothing such as polleras are made. The owners of the store have been working with women from this area, helping them re tool what they know (they do exquisite work, but focused on polleras and traditional clothing) to generate new designs and products. This small “laboratory” has now lampshades, beautiful shirts and skirts, women`s shoes and even honey from the local farms!
