Afternoons at the Fish Market`s Pier in Casco Viejo
Panama Casco Viejo There is always activity at the Fish Market and its next door pier. However, when the sun goes down a little bit, around 5 ish, you can see people hanging out at the cevicherias, with the classic “Panamanian ceviche” on one hand and a beer on the other. Fishermen and people traveling from as far as Darien come here to cool down, which makes for an interesting showcase of Panamanian culture! meet them all… in one spot!
New Restaurant in Casco Viejo: L`Osteria at Casa del Horno
Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo, Panama Last night, casqueños gathered at L`Osteria, the new restaurant at Casa del Horno. Beautiful calicanto stone walls give you a cozy ambiance: perfect for homemade Italian cuisine by chef Barbara. L’osteria: from the Latin “hospes” meaning “guest”. A public place which served drinks; traditionally wine. Derived from the ancient Roman “caupona”, in the Middle Ages the osteria was a place where the traveler could find food and lodging. So there you go! Initially, they`ll welcome guests just for dinner, starting at 6 p.m. Once the construction at B Avenue is finished, they`ll open for lunch. … Continue reading
Delicious Crepes at La Petite Bretagne in Casco Viejo
Casco Viejo, Panama, Casco Antiguo One of the things I love about Casco is its eclectic community. People from all around the World have come here to live and to bring the best of their culture. This is the case of La Petite Bretagne, a small creperie that just opened at Central Avenue and 11th, next to the Lottery building and a couple of steps away from Las Clementinas. I had a wonderful honey and lemon crepe (with tea, of course!), a great way to end my afternoon.
Travel & Leisure Magazine Features Casco Viejo, Panama
Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo The main article at the most recent Travel and Leisure magazine is “Hottest Travel Destinations for 2012″, mentioning Panama and Casco Viejo. Check out the full article HERE “The Next Great Neighborhood: Panama City’s atmospheric Casco Antiguo (Old Town) is being scrubbed up for travelers lured by its 17th-century cathedral and crumbling mansions. The six-room Las Clementinas (011-507/228-7613; doubles from $250; dinner for two $50)—whose owner is a pioneer in the area’s preservation efforts—captures the colonial-chic vibe. Its restaurant serves Panamanian comfort food such as coconut-spiked risotto and ropa vieja.” Thumbs up!!!
Delicious New Menu at Las Clementinas, Casco Viejo
Casco Antiguo, Panama New Year, new menu at Las Clementinas in Casco Viejo! I haven´t tried everything yet, but so far I`m impressed. We had a good lunch this past weekend, and it was so nice I took photos of everyone`s dishes and my fork somehow ended on everyone’s plate… For starters, we ordered a “picadillo de mariscos” which was a perfect appetizer as we were a party of five. If you are a “soup person” like me, you`ll like the crema de zapallo (squash creme). It has a delicate lime flavor that makes you want to lick the plate. … Continue reading
Best Spot to Enjoy New Year in Panama: Rooftop Terrace of Las Clementinas
Casco Viejo, Panama, Casco Antiguo Last year, we had the pleasure of being at Las Clementinas for New Years. It was amazing, their rooftop terrace has almost a 360 degree view of Casco and Panama City. The city itself becomes your private firework show, from Paitilla to the Ghery Museum in Amador. This year, Las Clementinas will open again its panoramic roof terrace. Dinner will include a delicious menu featuring lobster and unlimited mimosas. It is the perfect spot if you don´t like crowds and prefer a more elegant, intimate ambiance. By the way, the brunch the next day … Continue reading

“El Carrito”, The Way to Go in Casco Viejo
Casco Viejo Restaurant Las Clementinas has the most fun transportation system of Casco Viejo: we call it “El Carrito”. A very comfortable 6 seat golf car, the “carrito” takes Clementina`s guests and restaurant clients wherever they like within the Casco and is really fantastic. Got people visiting from out of town? have a nice meal at the restaurant and complete the experience with a quick Casco Viejo tour with El Carrito. Very, very handy for those Friday nights when you are out with your friends and decided to wear sexy stilettos! Carlos, the driver, speaks English and Spanish. Call/text Carlos … Continue reading
Breakfast Specials at Baron Rojo, Casco Viejo
Panama Casco Antiguo “El Barón Rojo” (The Red Baron) is a small café at Calle 4ta and Avenida A, next to Arco Properties. Brand new spot, so you won`t see the sign out yet! but you`ll see the chairs outside. Their specialty: wonderful breakfasts which they serve starting at 7 a.m. and don´t stop until 3 p.m. So far we`ve tried the granola with fruit and yogurt which is served in a very generous bowl and the pineapple juice was in one of those high 1 pint glasses you (well, not sure if “you” but any Panamanian) would link to … Continue reading
