Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo
Many know this beach as the beach of 3rd street, or even Las Bóvedas. It´s historic name is Santo Domingo beach, and who lived there in the 40´s remember there used to be a small beach club by that name. Today, Casco has the last urban beaches of Panama city. Thanks to the cleaning of Panama´s bay, this natural urban resource is now home to turtles and the place of relaxation and sports for many. We would like to share with you some historic photos people has sent me through the years. I would like to give special thanks to Ema de Alvarado for the photo of her and her friends. I always remember her story of going to play at the pocitas chiricanas with her girlfriends.
I´m also sharing an aerial photo that shows the beach befor the parking lot was built. There is still a beach there, but we lost a big chunk. As a matter of fact, when we started monitoring the return of the turtles, it was at this beach where the first one was seen. Imagine the turtle´s surprise after so many years of not visiting! a car took her spot!
Today there is a better understanding and more awareness of the incredible importance of these natural areas. To love them and use them responsibly. Enjoy!
