How fortunate Panama is to have a wide range of cultural events, including opera! This year, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly opens for two performances, Tuesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 16 at the Teatro Nacional in Casco Antiguo. Rachel Cobb sings the role of Madama Butterfly, Keely Rhodes sings Suzuki, Gregorio Gonzalez – B.F. Pinkerton Scenic Tenor and Robert DeSimone – Director. They are from the United States and Juan Manuel Arana – Musical Director from Costa Rica.
Tickets range in price from $10.00 in the Galeria , $40.00 in the Segundo Alto, $50.00 in the Primero Alto, $75.00 for the Antiteatro and $100.00 for the Luneta, main floor. All tickets are at Blockbuster or can be purchased at the theater the day of the performance. Doors open at 6pm. Curtain time is 7pm. Come enjoy two and a half hours of an opera classic. A group of Cascoites are planning to rendezvous at Café de Neri on Avenida Central and Calle 3 at 6pm for a glass of wine and a few entradas so our stomachs don’t add any unorchestrated sounds.
