Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo
It isn´t uncommon: people asks us about our company and it gets confusing. We are Arco Properties, but our mother company is Conservatorio S.A. The name comes from Casco´s old Music Conservatory, the first building we restored.
At that time, Plaza Herrera was seen as a red zone. Conservatorio went ahead and restored the building into small loft apartments for young artists and scientists that were at that time working for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Eventually, a beautiful partnership happened: Panamanian musician Danilo Pérez was looking to create a music school and he had learned his first notes at that building when he was a kid.
It was a positive bomb dropped in the area. The school has grown and delivered amazing results: children from the area now young musicians, with their own bands and everything.
