City Post Covid: Empowerment is the Future
Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo
Santa Ana Patrimonial
We are firm believers of the big powers of small actions, the micro, the power of one (both the number and one self!). In Casco, we´ve seen it work so many times. It is probably the only thing that works: when people are empowered.
During the lockdown due to covid, a group of residentes, authorities, and businesses in Santa Ana decided to do something about the street. To show that you could achieve a better neighborhood, healthier and more beautiful for everyone. The results have been fantastic. Wider side walks thanks to the magic of the artists involved (Canvas Urbano) and the volunteers that painted. Wider curves that slow traffic, making for safer streets. And a bus stop designed to keep social distancing, including a portable washing station.
This project, called ConVida (WithLife) was coordinated through Grupo Conservatorio and executed by many stakeholders, including the transit authority, local political representatives, resident volunteers and businesses. ConVida is just getting started. This is a platform that will start to re activate spaces but more importantly minds, to transform this historic neighborhood from inside and by itself. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this vision and for the courage of making it happen!
