Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Lo Que Hay: Calle 5ta y Avenida A Chef José Carles loves to experiment. If you´ve been to his restaurant, Donde José, you´ll be part of the journey he takes every week to explore flavors using Panamanian ingredients and different influences. But now, he is opening Lo Que Hay, a fonda style restaurant for those who crave old fashion, but really good, comfort food.  Located at 5th and A Avenue, Lo Que Hay (you can translate it to: “what´s in stock”) is opening only (so far!) on Sunday afternoon.  Don´t feel like cooking? come and … Continue reading

CascoMar Opened!!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo, Plaza Herrera 25 August, CASCOMAR opened.  Last night, fifteen Casqueños  got together to check out the tapas.  Formerly La Rose de los Vientos, the restaurant is tucked away on the corner of  Avenida 9 Sur on the back side of Iglesia San Jose and Calle 8.  Our tables extended almost half the length of the  terrace along the seawall. Martha, the owner, recommended an authentic tortilla espanol and croquetas de jamon iberico ,delicious.  Their house white wine is an Albarino from Spain. Before the weekend, some of us will be back for dinner.  It was … Continue reading

Santa Rita restaurant in Casco Viejo

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo When you live in Casco you are constantly exploring new places.  Last Friday, we went to Santa Rita, Casa Panama´s groundfloor restaurant. A super warm welcome by the manager, her recommendations were really good. They have Spanish cuisine, from the famous callos to nice octopus carpaccio. Loved the artichoke appetizer and the crema catalana! Here is their Facebook page for more info!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo December is Panama´s “rush month”. I saw myself strapped for time more than once last week, almost no time to go home and prepare lunch (and I live literally next to Arco).  I thought, well, I´ll try the salad place that opened in Calle 1era. A really nice surprise! they do delivery, and have a nice variety of salads. I ordered the one with peach and goat cheese. Check out their other combinations!

Sushi at Casco: Welcome Aki

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Yesterday we had a great time at AKI, Casco´s new sushi restaurant. Owner Brittany Morgan is known in Bocas del Toro for her restaurant RAW Fusion. Now, she moved to Casco and AKI looks great.  Intimate and with delicious food.   I loved the Totoro posters! Others will love the light sake sangria. I didn´t have time to take photos to the dishes, ate them right away! Here is Britanny´s Facebook.
