Artisanal Brewing in Casco Viejo: La Rana Dorada

The first time I tasted artisanal beer was in Cuba. I remember being amazed at the machinery, the beautiful tanks and pipes… and the product was a lot of fun! Guess what? now we have one in Casco Viejo! check out La Rana Dorada: Located in front of the Centenario park in Casco Viejo, just at the very entrance to San Felipe, it has an outdoors terrace, so you can bring your dog! (always appreciated for all of us dog owners!).  The space is well done, but the commanding piece is the beer brewery.  Fantastic! they produce all sorts of … Continue reading

Delicious Crepes at La Petite Bretagne in Casco Viejo

Casco Viejo, Panama, Casco Antiguo   One of the things I love about Casco is its eclectic community.  People from all around the World have come here to live and to bring the best of their culture.  This is the case of La Petite Bretagne, a small creperie that just opened at Central Avenue and 11th, next to the Lottery building and a couple of steps away from Las Clementinas.  I had a wonderful honey and lemon crepe (with tea, of course!), a great way to end my afternoon.

Century Old Businesses of Panama

Casco Viejo, Panama, Casco Antiguo   I came across a while ago with the Spanish edition of The Economist, which normally gathers news of LatinAmerica (mostly focused on Central America, actually).  They ran an entire edition on companies that were more than a 100 years old, and Panama had featured two of them: the licor factory Varela Hermanos (103 years old) and the department store Felix B. Maduro (135 years old). The Felix B. Maduro store was actually born in Casco Viejo in 1877 (we were part of Colombia back then), and it was called “Maduro & Company”. Founded by … Continue reading

Casco Antiguo Panama You are a creative professional and so far had been working from home, or working for someone but trying to get more “space” for your own work.  Renting a shared office is not your style, mostly because you might not relate to the type of businesses next to you and synergy depends on having other creative people around that are on the same (or similar!) wavelength. Before you go crazy at home (or at work) consider CascoStation!  It is not a “shared office” nor a “virtual office”.  Is a group of independent creative professionals (artists, web, digital, … Continue reading

How to get a historic apartment for $350,000 or less in Casco Viejo, Panama

Properties in historic areas that have gone through a revitalization process tend to always appreciate. To the point they become very expensive. In Panama, it is still way below the prices of their peers, but quickly getting to match them as new projects get restored and more energy goes into the system. Price ranges such as $350,000 and below might very well disappear soon. Learn about it while you are still on time. Continue reading

Living in the Center vs Living in the Suburbs… where is a human happier?

Meditating about what has value and what doesn´t is a profound activity, almost zen-like. It has to do with the fundamentals of the property, but on a bigger picture even that is subdued to one and only factor: what makes a human happy. Continue reading
