Joy, Joy, Joy! Casco´s Christmas Decoration

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo It is Christmas! Plazas and streets have been beautifully decored. But what I love the most, are the simple expressions of joy and merry on doors, balconies and inside homes of Casco´s residents and businesses. Couldn´t take them all, but here are some of my favorites.

Christmas Concerts Coming

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo December 25th: 7 p.m. at La Merced Church in Casco Viejo. The chorus Santa Teresa de Jesús and the children of the Cantores de Azuero chorus will be singing at the church. January 6th: Panama´s Orchestra will give a concert at the main Cathedral Plaza. Casco´s Nativity Scenes

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo When I grew up, it was tradition to set up a nativity scene at home. It was an amazing process, milk boxes used to come printed with stars and houses so you could cut them and make your little town. You could add then all the classic figurines, plus toys. Somehow the scene always ended up with Transformers and dinosaurs.  I remembered laughing at how all the animals being from different toy sets, they were all larger than people. Succesful Paseo Urbano Casco Viejo

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Yesterday Casco was packed with young people running from one place to the other. Casco´s first urban market was about to open. I went early to see all the activity, that ended up around 10 p.m.  This is an exciting time. Young entrepreneurs are forming startups with really good product. From fashion to chocolate, beer, ice cream, beauty products, wood products, event organizers and – of course! – music. Christmas Carols at Anita Villalaz: Dec 15th

Panamá, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Camerata Panamá is a young art collective that is organizing this year Christmas carols at the Anita Villalaz theater in Casco Viejo. December 15th, 8 p.m.  All the classics will be there, from the Latinamerican repertoir to the internationally loved “We wish you a Merry Christmas”.  Donations: $15 and $20. La Musa art gallery opens

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo La Musa, at the corner of 5th and A Avenue is a different concept. The art gallery takes on an entire house. The idea is to provide artists and guests with an intimate experience, where they can be catered while commissioning or buying art.  A sister house is opening this week in Mexico.
