Banistmo´s inauguration at Plaza Herrera, Casco Viejo

Panamá, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Last weekend was also the official inauguration of Banistmo in Plaza Herrera. What an event! Aside from the concert, what we loved was how they really took the effort to reach out to ngo´s and make them part of the event.  Dances where presented from children at Aprojusan and the Enlaces program at Calicanto. Food included the boys from the Fortaleza tour of the Esperanza program.  Young rapper Jacobo, the son of Nico from La Vecindad had the chance to share stage with one of the oldest reggueton singers in Panama (Nando Boom), back when … Continue reading

Wayne Shorter, Danilo Pérez, Danni Clovis… stage on fire!

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Sunday morning we woke up and we couldn´t believe the weekend we just had. What a historic moment for Panama! international music stars, legends like Wayne Shorter in our own backyard, playing amazing music, having fun. From the Danilo Perez Jazz Club special night with Wayne Shorter, to the Percussion Festival at the Anita Villalaz with musicians such as Danni Clovis and Jimmie Morales. We enjoyed every single moment, and everyone stood up to the challenge.  Still speechless for local new young talent coming out of the Danilo Perez Foundation: Richard Santamaría.  What a kid… … Continue reading

Toms Store at Plaza Bolivar, Casco Viejo

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo We always celebrate new retail coming to Casco, but specially if it is retail with a strong social tie. This is the case of TOMS, a store that is known around the world for giving one on one, meaning that each shoe that you buy, represents a shoe for a child in need, and that every pair of eyewear you buy, they invest in eye health for someone that needs it. They are located at Hotel Colombia, next to Casablanca, at Plaza Bolivar. They´ll open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. , so there is … Continue reading

Las Clementinas New Menu!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Las Clementinas has renewed its entire menu. It is now more bistro, with dishes around $9.  We tried them on Friday (along with a bunch of cocktails) and they were really good. Here are some photos, but nothing compared to the ones they posted at their Facebook Page. Wao!

Banistmo opens in Casco Viejo

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo A number of years, Arco surveyed among the neighbors what type of businesses they needed the most. Among them were: a pharmacy, a grocery store, a bank. Step by step, we´ve been bringing them to the neighborhood.  Not always an easy task! That is why we would like to celebrate today another historic landmark: Casco´s first bank in San Felipe. I don´t think the town had one since the 70´s. Banistmo opened this week at Casa Lewis, Plaza Herrera, corner of 9th and A Avenue. They´ll be open from Monday to Friday (9:30 a.m. to … Continue reading

Jane´s Walk… Santa Ana, Casco Viejo

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Walking is something most of us take for granted. We walk from point A to B without giving much thought. But this experience hits us, the way vitamins do: you just don´t notice them, until you are out of them and get a really bad flu. When done with full awareness, you start connecting your feelings to your thoughts on why you feel the way you do when you are in places you like and places you don´t.  It hits you when places get destroyed. It lifts you when places feel “right”, and somehow “thoughtful”.  … Continue reading

Plaza Santa Ana as a Bull Ring

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo This weekend our friend Leo sent us an incredible photo: Plaza Santa Ana being used as a Bull Ring. While I had seen photos of Plaza Catedral and even Plaza Herrera being used as such, I had never seen Plaza Santa Ana. Check out the details of the surrounding buildings, completely changed today.  Cerro Ancon at the back. What a jewel!

Whales, dolphins, turtles and surf: Casco Charters

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Just went on a full day trip with Casco Charters. I am not kidding: we saw everything. Granted, this is whale watching season, but I was not expecting to see turtles and dolphins. Plus, my husband caught some waves! Casco Charters is a new service in Casco Viejo that can take you explore Panama´s bay. Whether it is a 20 minute ride to Taboga, or a full expedition to Pearl Islands, it is as easy as it is amazing. Contact them through their Facebook Page: HERE. Be prepared, these photos have not been photoshoped!
