Cacique Cruiser, Casco Viejo. Adventures in Panama!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo A few years ago, we took one of Cacique´s trips. It was to the Bayano Caves and we simply loved it. This week, we have visitors in town, but being an ultra busy week we just didn´t have time to arrange activities. A phone call to our friends at Cacique Cruiser, and off they went to San Blas and more! That´s what I love about living in Casco, everything is so compact. Our guests woke up early and simply walked down the street to meet the guides. We went off to our daily chores, looking … Continue reading

Textile Artist in Town!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo We had tons of fun! With the help of textile artist Mariah Gillespie, we painted and sew our very own bag.  Cutting, painting, and then trying to figure out how to use a sewing machine. I felt like one of those monkeys in Stanley Kubrick´s film, Space Odyssey touching the monolith. But at the end victory was ours and a bag was made! Here are the photos of the “bag odyssey”. Tomorrow Mariah and Michael Lombardo will have an open studio at Santa Familia, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thanks to Mariah for the … Continue reading

Casco´s Music Conservatory

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo It isn´t uncommon: people asks us about our company and it gets confusing. We are Arco Properties, but our mother company is Conservatorio S.A. The name comes from Casco´s old Music Conservatory, the first building we restored. At that time, Plaza Herrera was seen as a red zone.  Conservatorio went ahead and restored the building into small loft apartments for young artists and scientists that were at that time working for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Eventually, a beautiful partnership happened: Panamanian musician Danilo Pérez was looking to create a music school and he had … Continue reading

Crave Casco Viejo!

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Craving a bit of Korean style food? Crave is here! at Casa Neuman, in front of El Colegio.  I think we must have tried about 90% of the menu and it has been really nice. My top picks: the brussel sprouts at the very top. If you eat pork, you have to have it. You won´t need a knife, it will just fall from the bone. I try , but why fight against my nature on a Friday night? yes, I ordered dessert: their malt with a shot of bourbon was fantastic. The staff was … Continue reading
