Esquina Photo and Marruecos Photo Show

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Last Wednesday was Esquina Photo`s Marrueco`s photo show. I loved it! The artist, a Brazilian lady who has been all over the world, was there, and many well known photographers in Panama like Alfredo Maiquez.

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Check this out! my collection now includes: lemon grass, rosemary, basil, chili peppers, tomatoes, red berries and… welcoming squash and watermelon! yes, those are the seeds you see sprouting in the little egg container. Exciting! I think I`ll put those in the roof terrace later and give some away to friends who are starting their own. If you are thinking about it but need some inspiration, don´t miss this Ted Talk about urban gardening: http://blog.ted.com/2013/04/12/10-amazing-comments-from-renegade-gardener-ron-finley/

Bienal del Sur Casco Viejo

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo   I kind of dig the mystery and awe of bumping into good/ interesting art in the street. When I travel, I always look for those big or small corners of human expression, that space someone stole from a plaza or a wall and transformed it so that people passing by had a reaction, a thought, provoked a smiled or a protest. To throw at you a silent question, make you raise or low an eyebrow.  The Bienal in Casco Viejo has been so far a little bit like this. Today I`ll issue my small … Continue reading

CAPTA Graduates Steal the Show

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Yesterday was the graduation No. 24 of the CAPTA program of Fundación Calicanto. They now have officially graduated over 500 women, with over 73% rate of success on not only getting a job but keeping it a year after. This graduation was very special, because it was one of the very few where I`ve heard some of them state being an entrepreneur as part of their dream (usually they are very focused on getting a job). This on itself is awesome.  For these women who normally come from very difficult/violent backgrounds and in really poor … Continue reading

Calle 11 Extreme Makeover

Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo, Panama For the last few months, members of the Casco Viejo Neighborhood Associatin (AVACA) have been meeting about a growing problem: traffic in the Casco. A handful of business owners, many of them residents, brainstormed and came up with really nice ideas on how to improve it.  As a pilot, they decided to start on Calle 11, a street that included several elements of the “problem” (bien cuidados, garbage, illegal parking, broken sidewalks between others).  This is what they did: With help from all the residents in the street, a plan was designed to park in … Continue reading

Historic Real Estate: Cartagena

Panama, Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo Interesting article about Cartagena, Colombia`s colonial town. Because it started its revitalization before Panama`s historic district of Casco Antiguo, it is probably one of the best cases to show the path of evolution of historic real estate in the region.  For those of you who have followed prices and trends through Arco`s blog and listings in Casco Viejo, I`m sure you will find this reading extremely interesting.  One of the easiest things to compare is always the price range per restored mt2. Qualities being similar, Panama`s Casco Viejo is still between $2500 to $3000 (in … Continue reading
