Panama`s History Jewel: Endara`s Museum

Panama Casco Viejo, Casco Antiguo   I think I might have written about photographer Carlos Endara before.  Last week, I participated of a tour to this private museum and ran around like a little kid.  I mean, it is so beautiful and interesting! to see his work, how he captured with his lens life of Panama`s early republic. How his “low – fi” studio is the coolest thing I`ve ever seen in terms of historic houses, and I can assure you everything works as every “built to last forever” technology does. Right now, they have an exhibition of the Chinese … Continue reading

Casco Viejo`s Historic Cement Tiles Get Noticed

Panama Casco Viejo A couple of weeks ago we ran into Marcos Cajina from Granada Tiles, a Nicaraguan company that makes beautiful tiles.  I didn´t know he had a blog, but  when a friend sent us his posting featuring Casco Viejo`s original tiles… I had to smile, because we love it too… Realtor confession time: as realtors in Casco Viejo, one of the adrenaline rushes we experience when dealing with a new unrestored building is precisely finding out whether there is any trace of the original tile.  And when we do find it, we go “wao, did you see this? … Continue reading

My Eco Christmas Tree 2012: Cans and Glass

Panama Casco Viejo A couple of years ago, I started creating my own Christmas Tree with recycled materials.  My first one was with newspaper, plastic bags and stuff I found at Casco Viejo`s beach.  The second year I did one with plastic bottles, also gathered from the beach.  That year we did a cute one for Plaza Catedral, where kids worked with a local artist and the tree was a complete success! Then I moved and since I don´t have much space for a big tree, I changed to mini trees.  My next tree was with glass bottles, small … Continue reading

Thanksgiving is coming!

Panama, Casco Viejo The 22nd is almost around the corner. People are thinking on what to cook and the upcoming holidays.  Yes, Thanksgiving is here and AVACA`s annual party gets better every time.  As it has become a tradition, the party tried to pick up a place that has recently opened to business, so everyone in the community gets to know it.  This year, the party will be at the roof terrace of Tantalo at the corner of 8th and B Avenue.  As Casco`s community grows, it is exciting to see new neighbors joining. Specially if they cook well! (unlike … Continue reading

New Restaurant Casco Viejo: Da Vinci

Panama Casco Viejo – Casco Antiguo When I saw the Gioconda outside I was like…. Ok… not sure about this one ( I mean, I really love Leonardo, but somehow the Gioconda was never my favorite). HOWEVER,  I got such wonderful comment from one of my Italian friends who went there that I had to re consider.  Better than my words, hers: “From my experience, and as an Italian, I would add that the pasta is very good. Juan makes it on site and in front of his customers, like and old-fashioned Italian pasta shop. My favorite dishes are the … Continue reading
